There is a huge array of baby furniture available! And you want the best for your baby. So where do you start? Cribs? Baby furniture dressers? Changing tables?

There really is a huge array of baby furniture available, all begging for you to purchase it! And you want the best for your baby. So where do you start? Cribs? Baby furniture dressers? Changing tables? Cradles?

Set Some Goals

You’ll want your baby (and you!) to enjoy the nursery furniture from the time your babies are born until the last one is ready for bid-kid furniture, so durability and quality of construction are top concerns. So when you are looking at baby furniture, check carefully to see how well it is made and how solidly it will be when put together. Clearly, if it’s made of solid oak it will be much stronger and last a lot longer than if made mostly from plastic or composite materials.

You also want your furniture to be fun, safe, and playful while at the same time making the tasks that happen in a nursery easy and convenient to perform.

I recommend you start small – get some type of storage, a crib, and a changing table. You can always build from there.

Baby Furniture Dressers

This is really an essential piece of furniture and will be important for storing baby’s clothes and diapers. Without some kind of storage, you’re really asking for a very cluttered nursery, and you’ll never enjoy that. You want to create a sense of organization while at the same time having all the things you and your baby need to make him or her happy. Choose from the available baby furniture dressers carefully.

Crib

Obviously, this is another essential – even more essential than baby furniture dressers. In choosing a crib, keep all the safety features in mind. Your baby will spend a lot of time there. Look for a crib that is safe and fun.

Changing Tables

Some parents avoid these, but I’ve found them to be a delight. All the supplies are in the right places. You have a clean place to change your baby – something that can be messy at times. You don’t have diapering supplies all over your house. And there is something about just plopping the kid down on the sofa or floor to change a diaper that just doesn’t seem like such a good idea to me for several reasons. And if you are looking at the right baby furniture dressers, you might find one that is actually a changing table dresser!

What else might you buy? Well, that’s the subject of another blog post!

So you’ve got the basics of your nursery together. Now what else might you want for the nursery?

So you’ve got the basics of your nursery together. You’ve got the right flooring. The walls are painted and decorated. You’ve bought a crib and a changing table. You’ve shopped the stores and looked at all sorts of baby furniture dressers before picking out the dresser that will be perfect. Now what else might you want for the nursery?

Baby monitor. These little wireless things are so handy. You can tell instantly if your baby has awakened from a nap and is crying no matter where you are in your house. Get one.

Baby gliders and baby rocking chairs. There is just something about having a really comfortable rocking chair in the nursery that sooths both baby and mommy. Look for one that is sturdily build and that is very comfortable. You might find yourself spending a lot of time with your baby there.

Lighting. Soft, easy lighting for those late nights with your baby will be a blessing to both of you. Of course, the number one priority here is safety. That includes both the lamp itself and where you choose to locate it.

Music. Make some kind of provision for playing some music in the nursery. You might find it fun to experiment to see what sorts of sounds or music is most soothing to your baby.

Toys. This is pretty simple. You’ll want some age-appropriate toys handy for your baby to play with including during diaper changes.

Diaper pail. You’ll need a safe, hygienic place to dispose of diapers. Again, the safety of your child is the number one priority, especially when he or she is old enough to move around and explore.

None of these items have to be boring or plain. The choices you have are myriad. Shop around to stretch your dollars, but never scrimp on safety or comfort. Get some good furniture and it will last you well beyond your first child. Start with your crib, your changing table, and your baby furniture dresser. Then build your nursery with the items we’ve chatted about here. And best wishes for much joy with your baby!
