Furnishing Your Nursery with Cribs, Changing Tables, and Baby Furniture Dressers

There really is a huge array of baby furniture available, all begging for you to purchase it!  And you want the best for your baby.  So where do you start?  Cribs?  Baby furniture dressers?  Changing tables?  Cradles?

Set Some Goals

You’ll want your baby (and you!) to enjoy the nursery furniture from the time your babies are born until the last one is ready for bid-kid furniture, so durability and quality of construction are top concerns.  So when you are looking at baby furniture, check carefully to see how well it is made and how solidly it will be when put together.  Clearly, if it’s made of solid oak it will be much stronger and last a lot longer than if made mostly from plastic or composite materials.

You also want your furniture to be fun, safe, and playful while at the same time making the tasks that happen in a nursery easy and convenient to perform.

I recommend you start small – get some type of storage, a crib, and a changing table.  You can always build from there.

Baby Furniture Dressers

This is really an essential piece of furniture and will be important for storing baby’s clothes and diapers.  Without some kind of storage, you’re really asking for a very cluttered nursery, and you’ll never enjoy that.  You want to create a sense of organization while at the same time having all the things you and your baby need to make him or her happy.  Choose from the available baby furniture dressers carefully.

Crib

Obviously, this is another essential – even more essential than baby furniture dressers.  In choosing a crib, keep all the safety features in mind.  Your baby will spend a lot of time there.  Look for a crib that is safe and fun.

Changing Tables

Some parents avoid these, but I’ve found them to be a delight.  All the supplies are in the right places.  You have a clean place to change your baby – something that can be messy at times.  You don’t have diapering supplies all over your house.  And there is something about just plopping the kid down on the sofa or floor to change a diaper that just doesn’t seem like such a good idea to me for several reasons.  And if you are looking at the right baby furniture dressers, you might find one that is actually a changing table dresser!

What else might you buy?  Well, that’s the subject of another blog post!
